Conscious of the synergy of mind, emotion, physical and spiritual being. I like to work on the cusp between representation and abstraction, in the intuitive space where my subjects can be approached without the weight of literal meaning.
Drawn naturally to an uplifting palette of both subtle and saturated colour, and often as a positive response to the natural world around me, my art becomes a tool for the realisation of internal worlds. Characterised by a meditative process of making, the finished pieces range from precognitive arrangements of unfiltered perceptions, to recognizable topographies of the mind.
Fortunate enough to live at the base of the foothills of Dandenong Ranges National Park, east of Melbourne, my relationship with my immediate surroundings informs my practice. Through walking and the presence of the mountain as a visible constant through my windows, I draw energy and inspiration from this place.
Opportunistic and inventive with materials and tools, I am adept at using what is within reach when I am in creation-mode. From this experience, with the texture and layered detail inviting ongoing contemplation of the work. I would like to take the viewer on a journey into imagination and feeling, allowing the imagery to unfold and reveal.
I also like to express myself through abstract representational drawings, with subjects including people, animals, and landscapes.
